SIMS defines the following APIs:

1) Simple Capabilities Description Language (SCDL) This protocol is used for obtaining a description of the SIMS capabilities provided by a service. It is recommended that each service provide a web page acknowledging that the service supports SIMS as well as the official URL for the SCDL document.

2) Simple Content Browsing Protocol (SCBP) This protocol is used for browsing of content and content metadata.

3) Simple Content Transaction Protocol (SCTP) This protocol is used for handling account login, device authorization, purchase and rental transactions, content requests and other basic transactional functions of a content service.

4) Simple Content Subscription Protocol (SCSP) This protocol is used for handling content subscription.

5) Simple Advertisement Retrieval Protocol (SARP) This protocol is used for discovery and retrieval of advertisements associated with content and/or an account.

6) Simple System Message Protocol (SSMP) This protocol is used for checking and retrieving system messages and commands directed at devices.

7) Simple Software Update Protocol (SSUP) This protocol is used for checking and retrieving software updates for devices.

8) Simple Content Metadata Exchange (SCMX) This document format is used for transfer and ingestion of content metadata.
